The Value Of The Charm Bracelet

By Jo Archibald

Charm bracelets are used for fashion now, however they were used differently in the past. There are different stories behind them.

Charm bracelets go way back to ancient Egypt. The Egyptians originally used them for purposes such as protection against evil, status symbol, and family heirloom. The other non-Egyptian cultures mainly looked at charm bracelets as something that strengthens their superstitious beliefs. They were even used as protection for the knights who went to battles in the Middles Ages.

One of the famous collectors of charm bracelets was Queen Victoria. With the upturn in the 50s, downswing in the 70's, and back to the lead again in the new millennium, the design of jewelry has definitely seen its ups and downs. The long-established style of the charm bracelet is the one with the chain link.

To ward off these dark people, they wore rabbit's foot as charm bracelet. Later, the belief was forgotten and the rabbit's foot became a mere accessory. Moreover, Queen Victoria, during her time, was believed to have a collection of charm bracelets.

Paolo Gensini designed the Italian charm bracelet in the late 80s. His distinct design makes use of separate links that shows the charm on the face. The blank links are changed at the moment that the special tokens are picked. A circular bracelet and the tokens that are fastened around it, that lets the tokens to go around, is another design of the present.

Another style that was introduced in the 1980s was called the Italian charm bracelet. This was created by Paolo Gensini. Instead of charms dangling on the loops, the charms were already printed right on the face of the bracelet. These bracelets are usually elastic. In order to make them personalized, the blank links can be filled with pictures or other charms that they choose. There is also another design which has movable charms around a rounded bracelet. These charms can thus spin around.

Those who clean should be cautious of the coated dangling pieces. If not, the residue can be taken off with the use of the regular cleaner for jewelry. Charm bracelets are popular because both men and women wore them as charms for protection and as symbols for their status. As time goes by, bracelets are used for fashions rather than for fortune and defense.

Girls and women take pleasure in showing their personalities through the bracelets they wear. Because the bracelets have some value to the possessor, the tokens are selected with care.

Many years ago, the charm bracelet does not hold any gender issues. It can be worn by men and women to identify a status symbol or as a protective charm. However, over time, this bracelet lost its symbol and just became a mere fashion statement. With this, females wear this to for fun and to represent them somehow.

Charm bracelets are also common as family heirlooms, and each piece possesses a part of the history of the family and a glimpse into the actual owner's personality. A lot of women wear this jewelry just for pleasure. Anyone can find charms for almost anything. There are charms for numbers, letter, pictures, symbols, sports, animals and many more.
