Preparing Food for Craft Shows
I love cooking. Besides my line of work, it's the one other thing I'm good at. I'm always reading my mother's cookbooks and staying in the kitchen listening to the sizzle of saut?, and even the little kitchen accidents that are inevitable. Cooking is relaxing for me and nothing beats the feeling I get when food I've prepared is appreciated and consumed.
One day, I was approached by an old officemate of mine who have since gone on to becoming an entrepreneur. Remembering how I once cooked for an office party, he asked me a favor. He basically pitched this idea where I should add some food to complement this booth that he wanted to set up in a fair. He had an idea about selling cold fruitshakes, which was fun and all. I was on break, so I decided to give it a shot.
Now, what do you pair with fruitshakes? Most will definitely work with fruitshakes, but is there anything that would work with them in particular? I browsed through the inherited cookbooks in my kitchen, and after a while got to thinking that I took on more than I could handle. Most of the food ideas in my head weren't a good idea for food stalls in a fair. And burgers, while a practical choice, was nothing too special.
Then it came to me: The perfect pairing to my friend's fruitshake idea. Something spicy! Instead of preparing an old burger recipe as was my default plan, I decided to hunt around for my mom's old chili recipe and began preparing that. Then I did one better: I made up the chiliburger!
But then, it would've been weird to have chiliburgers and fruitshakes in the same stall, though. So I approached my friend again and told him about an idea I had. Suppose he set me up with my own booth but still in close proximity to his? He liked the idea well enough, and soon I was talking to the event organizers to have my own booth.
